Alarm
Calls, 2003 Ink on paper, mounted 6 pieces, 8.5" x 14" each Sonograms of mobbing calls from (L-R): Blackbird, Robin, Garden Warbler, Wren, Stonechat, Chaffinch. Mobbing or alarm calls are short, 'square-edged', and have a wide range of frequencies present. The more cynical interpreter might consider a bird producing racous mobbing and alarm calls to be attracting as many other birds to itself as possible, creating an artificial 'selfish-herd' situation. By manipulating other birds to congregate around a predator, an individual will reduce its changes of being caught. |
